Showplace Spring Classic II Comes to and End

Crete, Ill. – May 22, 2018 – Week II of HITS Chicago brought blue ribbons to many at HITS Balmoral Park as the Showplace Spring Classic Series continued. On Wednesday, Bryn Sadler jumped to the top of the placings, taking the win in the $5,000 Johnson Horse Transportation Open Welcome aboard Cezarro in a speedy jump-off time of 36.675. In second place was MacKenzie Snider and Skara Glen’s Basel in a four-fault jump-off time of 35.416. Third was Lauren Hester aboard Warinde B in a four-fault jump-off time of 35.980. In fourth place was Nick Novak and Classic Roc in a four-fault jump-off time of 36.400 and fifth was Lisa Goldman with her mount Hit Me Van’t Zorgvliet.

On Thursday, Isabella Baxter brought her A-game for Week II, winning the $5,000 KindredBio Open Jumper Prix aboard Caroquados T and taking second place aboard Jahil in jump-off times of 34.816 and 35.733, respectively. Goldman took third place aboard Nike in a jump-off time of 37.142 and fourth was Hannah Bilton and Elan with a jump-off time of 38.022. Rounding out the top five was Taylor McMurtry and Condero 3 in a jump-off time of 41.693.

Crowds once again gathered at the Grand Prix Ring on Saturday for the $35,000 HITS Grand Prix. For the second week in a row, Goldman took first place, this time aboard Hindsight in a jump-off time of 39.778. Both second and fourth place went to Sadler aboard Bon Giorno and Cezarro in jump-off times of 40.579 and 42.709, respectively. Novak was third aboard Classic Roc in a jump-off time of 42.027 and in fifth place was Douglas Boyd and Berkley III in a jump-off time of 42.810.

Wrapping up the show on Sunday, Shannon Hicks took first place in the $5,000 SmartPak Jumper Classic with her mount Al Pachini in a jump-off time of 35.576. Shannon Sullivan was second aboard Downtown’s Main Event in a jump-off time of 39.353. Both third and fourth place went to Taylor Kain with Gipsy 1134 and Shuttergold in jump-off times of 39.870 and 40.187, respectively and Sadler and Chicago Van Overis Z took fifth.

In the hunter rings riders also accumulated many blue ribbons in Week II. In the $2,500 USHJA National Derby, after two tricky rounds, Kain took the win aboard Market Trend with a combined score of 170. Baxter took second place with White Lightning and a combined score of 168 and in third was Tina Judge-Boyle and Les Cheneaux with a combined score of 164. Lauren George was awarded fourth place aboard King’s Landing with a combined score of 160. Rounding out the top five was Elise Fraza and Fierrot with a combined score of 159.5.

Coming back from fifth place in the $2,500 Devoucoux Hunter Prix in Week I, Molly McAdow secured the first place spot for Week II aboard Caston, this time with a combined score of 168. Kain was awarded second aboard Market Trend, earning a combined score of 166 and Josey Gentry was third with Lanesborough and a combined score of 162. Close behind, Jessica Ianello Brosche was fourth aboard Astaire with a combined score of 156 and just two points behind her, Ehrin Rittmueller was fifth aboard Chicago with a combined score of 154.

The Showplace Spring Classic III will return next week at HITS Balmoral Park in Crete, Illinois for more hunter and jumper action, highlighting the $35,000 HITS Grand Prix on Saturday, May 26.
