Mill Spring, NC – Oct. 27, 2017 – Santiago Lambre (MEX) consistently wins at Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC), and his streak continued with Thursday’s $35,000 Suncast® Commercial Welcome Stake CSI 3*, as he piloted two mounts to top finishes over 56 entries. Aboard Doloris, a 2008 Dutch Warmblood mare (Harley VDL x Colorado D), he placed first, stopping the short-course timers at 37.64 seconds, while his second mount, Dingeman, finished in sixth place after finishing in 40.606 seconds with four faults.

Second place honors went to Eve Jobs (USA) and Charleville, a 2007 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Quasimodo Z x Lancelot), finishing the short course in 38.98 seconds, while Taylor Land (USA) and For Edition, a 2000 Hanoverian stallion (Forsyth Frh x Leggiero), were awarded third place honors after their 39.17 second short-course trip.

The 1.50m course, set by Anthony D’Ambrosio (USA), tested 56 entries before eight pairs returned to tour the short course. Lambre was the only rider to successfully pilot two mounts to the jump-off round, and said that consistent exposure for his horses to the venue helps.

“For a Welcome it was quite difficult. It was a nice course, and the time allowed was short. Only eight clear is not so many after [almost] sixty riders, so I think it was quite tough. Since they’ve jumped many weeks here, I think the horses know the ring, and I trust them, so I think they were ready to jump this class.”

Though Lambre’s consistent winning mount, Doloris, also topped today’s Welcome, she will not be riding Saturday night, he explained. “The mare who won, Doloris, is finished showing for the week–she’s going to have a nice break for two weeks and will not show Saturday night. She’s been jumping a lot recently and I’m going to ride Dingeman for the big class,” he said.

The baton will instead be passed to Dingeman, a 2008 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Nintender x Darnels), for this week’s $130,000 Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Grand Prix CSI 3*, where he hopes his consistency will pay off, Lambre commented.

Despite his mounts’ familiarity with the venue, Lambre concluded that the classes still remain fresh and interesting thanks to new obstacles on course: “This facility is unbelievable and we have new fences every week, and new things to look at. It is one of the best places to show.”

Sydney Shulman and Villamoura Achieve Victory in $6,000 1.40m Power & Speed CSI 3*

The week began with a victory in the $6,000 1.40m Power & Speed CSI 3* for Sydney Shulman (USA) and Jill Shulman’s 2009 Warmblood mare Villamoura (Dianant De Semilly x Kasina), after completing the jump-off track in a brisk 25.477 seconds. Kristen Vanderveen (USA) maintained a steadfast lead until the end of the class, but still ended the afternoon in second place after a jump-off round of 26.002 seconds aboard Bull Run Jumpers Six LLC’s Bull Run’s Divine Fortune, a 2009 Dutch Warmblood mare (Padinus x Amhilavsca Fortuna). Shawn Casady (USA) and Zephyr, a 2004 Dutch Warmblood gelding (Landor S x Tobelia), owned by Wyndmont Inc., rounded out the top three after completing the short course in 26.035 seconds.

“The track was suited, in my opinion, for a smaller horse today,” commented Shulman. “They gave you the options to add if you want to add to the verticals or to the combinations. I fortunately had two smaller horses in the class and it really suited them. After I watched Kristen and Shawn ride, they’re both on massive horses and I didn’t think there was anyway that I was going to match that, but Villamoura is really quick across the ground.”

Shulman has had the mare for a little over a year, and will head to Florida after the completion of the Tryon Fall Series. She continued, “Villamoura has really come into her own in the past five or six months. She was really green when we got her. I really only did the 1.20m and maybe 1.30m in Florida all last winter with her. In Kentucky she did her first 1.40m, and then at Gold Cup she won the 1.45m. After that, I decided to just go for it and see what she could do here in the FEI classes.”

Shulman concluded, “I love the facility here and it’s very horse friendly, so there is really no better place to give this mare more experience. I’m looking for her to be a 1.50m speed horse in the future.”

The final week of the Tryon Fall Series presented by Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport will conclude on Sunday, October 29. The $130,000 Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport Grand Prix CSI 3* will take place on Saturday, October 28, while the $35,000 1.45m Horseware® Ireland Speed Stakes, and a $25,000 Hunter Showcase will take place on Friday, October 27.
