Horse-and-rider combinations challenged Philip J. DeVita’s 12-effort track in the first round, but many fell victim to a rail at the final vertical and were unable to advance to the immediate jump-off course. Halfway into the order of go, Cyran Itzkovitz produced the first double-clear finish aboard Ellie O’Heaney’s Curious George in a steady time of 38.161 seconds. The next combination to jump clear across the two rounds was Samantha Ramsay and Nils On, owned by Equ Mac LLC, besting the leading time by nearly two seconds to finish on 36.68 seconds. Continuing the excitement, Angelo Danza followed with his own Euphoria two trips later, proving there was room for improvement as he stopped the clock in 34.337 seconds to change the lead once again.

Jardine followed suit as she entered next in the ring with Jackpot, flying to a time of 32.021 seconds, forcing the lead to change hands one final time. Cassandra Orpen and Donald Stewart’s Caddilac FS Z entered the ring after Jardine, hoping to improve on the winning time with a double-clear effort, but finished just shy with a time of 32.514 seconds to ultimately earn the second place award. Danza and Euphoria would capture third place, while Ramsay rode Nils On to the fourth place finish and Itzkovitz would round out the top five with Curious George.

Jackpot was initially entered in the $5,000 Jumper Classic with owner Vogel, but she was unable to make the class and assistant trainer Jardine stepped in to take over the reins. Although this marked the pair’s first class together, the 12-year-old Warmblood gelding was prepared for competition at the Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show after riding to Thursday’s 1.20m Jumper victory with Vogel. Coming off of wins at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show and Old Salem, Jackpot looks to continue his success in the Amatuer-Owner Jumper division with Vogel.

Show jumping action will resume Saturday at the Ox Ridge Riding and Racquet Club, with the $50,000 Ox Ridge Grand Prix, presented by the Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund, taking center stage as the highlight event of the week set to begin at 4 p.m.

On Jackpot:
“That is the first time I’ve ever shown this horse. Andrea Vogel is normally the owner and rider. Fortunately for me, she had to leave before the class started so I talked her into letting me show. It turned out okay for us! I’ve schooled him at home before. He is a super star, he knows his job, and is allergic to the wood – he just hears the buzzer and goes for it. Honestly he was awesome.”

On the jump-off:
“The warm-up here in Ox Ridge, you don’t really get to watch anything because you’re in the indoor. I only saw Angelo [Danza] go and I knew that I could cut out strides down two lines and I knew I didn’t have to do the inside turn. I heard the VIP tent whistling at us down that last line. It was a lot of fun and it’s nice to see the rider before you be competitive because it helps set the pace. He is a very naturally quick horse and he anticipates turns. He is there for you and he doesn’t waste any time in the air. I think that [Cassandra Orpen] and Angelo’s horses are probably actually suited to be jumping 1.40m where as my horse’s job is around that 1.30m speed. The time in the air came down to help me win by that small margin.”

On competing at the Ox Ridge Charity Horse Show:
“Twin Oaks Ventures operates out of a barn in Greenwich and in South Salem. This is the first time I’ve been here and we’ve had a great show here. Andrea was champion in the 1.20m with this horse and I was reserve champion with a young horse in the 1.30m. All of our other clients placed well and we still have the weekend. We’ve had a great show.”
