BREAKING NEWS: Major Closures Continue with Announcement of World Cup Finals Cancellation

Wellington, Fla. – Mar. 13, 2020 – The FEI has officially announced the cancellation of the Las Vegas World Cup Finals, set to take place April 15-19 in Las Vegas, Nevada, due to concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). The list of competitions around the globe that are being postponed or canceled continues to grow in an attempt to protect exhibitors and fans from further exposure to the disease. In addition to cancellations, many states have implemented limits on large gatherings in an attempt to limit exposure, while President Trump initiated a travel ban on March 11 that applies to non-U.S citizens who have traveled in the 26 ‘Schengen Area’ European countries in the past two weeks.

Las Vegas Events, the Local Organizing Committee for the FEI World Cup™ Finals, has been working with health officials since late February to monitor the situation and make an executive decision regarding the status of the show. The first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Nebraska was confirmed on Thursday, March 5, by the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD). An additional 11 cases have been identified in the state since since, with positive diagnoses and exposures growing daily nationwide. State Governor Steve Sisolak declared a state of emergency in Nevada on Thursday, March 12, and the Governor stated that mandates would be declared soon enforcing limits on large gatherings similar to ones issued in the states of California and Florida.

The FEI made the following statement regarding the 2020 World Cup Finals™:

“The International Equestrian Federation (FEI), United States Equestrian Federation and Las Vegas Events have announced the force majeure cancellation of the 2020 FEI World Cup™ Finals in Las Vegas. The annual equestrian competition, featuring the Olympic disciplines of showjumping and dressage, was scheduled for April 15 – 19 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The decision was made in the interest of public health as the safety of attendees, competitors, exhibitors and staff is the top priority. While recognizing the disappointment caused by the cancellation, this is the most prudent course of action at this time.

All ticket buyers and exhibitors will be issued full refunds. The Las Vegas Events ticket office will contact all ticket holders on the process starting the week of March 16.

Further information on the 2020 FEI World Cup™ Finals in Las Vegas can be found at www.WorldCupLasVegas.com.”
