Lindsay Maxwell and Kelly Tropin Start Strong in Amateur Owner 18-35 3’6” Hunters

Devon, Pa. – May 31, 2019 – Friday at the Devon Horse Show and County Fair hosted day one of competition for amateur owner athletes and their mounts in the Dixon Oval. First up on the schedule was the Amateur Owner 18-35 3’6” Hunters, sponsored by Lugano Diamonds. Lindsay Maxwell and Kelly Tropin started the division off with their mounts by producing strong rounds to each win one of the over fences classes.

Lindsay Maxwell and High Society

Maxwell and High Society, a 10-year-old Oldenberg gelding, executed the eight obstacle course effortlessly, scoring an 87 from the judging panel. High Society was previously trained as a jumper, but since partnering with Maxwell, the grey gelding has made a textbook transition to the hunter ring. Showing consistently in the Amateur Owner 3’6” division, the pair earned the championship during World Champion Hunter Week during Week Six of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, Florida.

Kelly Tropin and Chablis

In the second over fences class of the day, Tropin and her 11-year-old German Warmblood gelding, Chablis, captured the Devon blue. Chablis has been in Tropin’s barn since he was 4 years old, making this trip to the Dixon Oval extra special. Tropin, from New Canaan, Connecticut, has not shown at the Devon Horse Show since high school, and was excited to return to the ring with her special partner. Tropin and Chablis also walked away with the honors of the H.C. Baldwin Perpetual Trophy, for her high score of 89.

Later in the day, the Amateur Owner Over 35 3’6” Hunter division took their turn in the Dixon Oval, where John Ingram and Katie Robinson each took home the top prize in the over fences classes. Ingram, aboard his 11-year-old Swedish Warmblood Koala, scored an 88 in the first over fences class to also take home the Beeches Brook Challenge Trophy. In the next over fences class of the division, Robinson and On The Slye, an 8-year-old Warmblood captured the Devon blue with a score of 87.

Champion and reserve champion honors will be presented at the conclusion of both sections of the division as well as the Devon Grand Amateur-Owner Hunter Championship and the Devon Leading Amateur-Owner Hunter Rider. The Sambalino Award will be presented to the hunter that, in the opinion of the judges, best exemplifies the classic hunter horse in movement, style and presence.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Lindsay Maxwell – Amateur Owner 18-35 3’6” Hunters first over fences class winner

On High Society:
“This is High Society, Blue is his barn name. He was doing the jumpers when we first found him. He has been doing the hunters for about a year now. He took to the hunters really well and he is a fantastic animal. I couldn’t ask for more from him. He was great at [the Winter Equestrian Festival], he was champion during [World Champion Hunter Week].”

On showing at the Devon Horse Show:
“[High Society] loves a ring like this. The show is beautiful and management does such a great job. We love showing here so this is a great way to kick off the horse show. He love this ring and is loving the jumps. He handles himself pretty well in this ring. I expected him to pep up, but he knows his job really well. He really enjoys it here.”

Kelly Tropin – Amateur Owner 18-35 3’6” Hunters second over fences class winner

On showing at the Devon Horse Show with Chablis
“We have him in our barn since he was 4 years old. He is amazing. This is our first time to Devon together. I haven’t been here since I was in high school. He loves this ring here, he loves that he has fans here watching him. It’s amazing to be showing here again. I really wanted to make the trip back because he is such a special horse. It’s beautiful here and my favorite photo is from this show.”
