Laura Chapot Wins $24,000 CMJ Sporthorse 1.40m Open Stake at Lake Placid Horse Show

Lake Placid, NY – July 1, 2017 – Laura Chapot continued her winning ways Saturday, taking top honors in the $24,000CMJ Sporthorse 1.40m Open Stake at the 48th annual Lake Placid Horse Show, presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC and sponsored by Bainbridge Farm.

Twelve of 28 entries qualified for the jump-off by riding without penalty over the 15-effort first-round course designed by Michel Vaillancourt. With just two horses left to go, David Raposa held the lead with a clean jump-off ride in 33.367 seconds on Iliona. However, as was shown in Friday’s $30,000 Prevost Jumper Classic, no lead is safe with Chapot still left to ride.

Riding 27th in the order, Chapot rode Zealous to a clean first round and then completed the 7-effort tiebreaker course fault-free in 31.959 seconds to claim the win and drop Raposa to second place. Shawn Cassady took third with a clean jump-off ride in 33.954 seconds on Zephyr.

In the $7,500 High Peaks Resort Low Junior Jumper Classic, Lili Kaissar rode Boukati B to the win. Only five of 29 horses reached the jump-off with clean first rounds. Four of the five then rode clean in the jump-off with Kaissar finishing in the fastest time of 36.192 seconds to claim the win. Placing second was Raleigh Hiler who finished the jump-off clean in 37.975 seconds on Alvarino 2.

Kendra Gierkink won the $7,500 Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort Low Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. Four of 28 horses qualified for the jump-off, two of which were ridden by Gierkink who was the last to go on Freestyler. With Charlotte Jacobs holding the lead with a clean ride in 36.670 seconds on Darthus, Gierkink claimed the win with a clean round in 35.585 seconds. Gierkink also placed fourth on Zemilion with Jacobs placing second and Danielle Stacy taking third on Hot Topic.

In the $5,000 J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Amateur Jumper Classic, Corri Goldman topped a 48-horse field on Undelie De Roset. Goldman rode to two fault-free rides and a jump-off time of 28.563 seconds. Second place went to Kimberly Beattie on Charmander with a clean jump-off ride in 29.693 seconds. The J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Amateur Jumper Classic is a member event of the North American League (NAL) and Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) Series. The NAL features two year-end finals: at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg in October and at the International Jumping Festival in San Juan Capistrano, CA in September. The WIHS Series holds Finals at the Washington International Horse Show in October.

The Lake Placid Horse Show concludes Sunday with its featured event, the $75,000 Devoucoux Grand Prix of Lake Placid. After an off-day on Monday, the I Love New York Horse Show follows, July 4-9, featuring the $100,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC and sponsored by Bainbridge Farm on Saturday, July 8..

The Lake Placid Horse Shows offer over $535,000 in prize money and feature the nation’s best horses and riders competing in four show rings. The horse shows offers more than 100 classes of competition each week for all levels of competition ranging from young children on ponies to grand prix competitors and Olympic competitors and medalists. Each show is USEF ‘AA’ rated for hunters and 6* rated for Jumpers.
