Jennifer Alfano and Kindred Claim Green Hunter Incentive Stake Win

Lexington, Ky. – May 15, 2019 – The first day at the Kentucky Spring Classic kicked off in the Stonelea Ring with the Green Hunter Incentive Stake with top horse-and-rider combinations competing for the prize. Pairs competed in the 3’6’’ and 3’9’’ sections of the Green Hunter division, with the second over fences round designated toward the stake’s final results. It was Jennifer Alfano and Kathy Chiaf’s Kindred who put in Wednesday’s most impressive ride that would earn them a score of 86, sending them straight at the top of the leaderboard.

Jennifer Alfano and Kindred

Kindred, a 7-year-old Warmblood, has been partnered with Alfano in the show ring since the start of 2019. The pair has had results all through the winter circuit in Ocala, Florida. Recently in April of 2019, the pair captured a first place finish in the $15,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, Texas. Alfano plans to aim Kindred for the Green Hunter Incentive Championships, taking placing at the Bluegrass Festival in August.

Jeff Gogul and Maverick

Second place was captured by Jeff Gogul and Maverick, a 6-year-old Warmblood owned by Roberts Stables LLC. The pair earned an 85, falling just short of Alfano’s winning score. Finishing in third was Chris Payne and Melissa Jacobs LLC’s Middleton with a score of 82.50.

The Green Hunter Incentive Program was created by the USHJA in the hopes of increasing participation at the Green level. The program offers the option for athletes to compete at the 3’6’’ and 3’9’’ height. At the end of the year, the top placing horse and rider combinations will be invited to return to the Kentucky Horse Park to compete at the Green Hunter Incentive Championships in August at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show, which will include four fence height options upon adding the 3’6” and 3’9” to the existing 3’ and 3’3” fence heights.

Hunter competition will resume in the Stonelea on Thursday with the Green Hunter division at 8:00 a.m.
