American Gold Cup Draws Riders from Around the World

© sji: AMERICAN GOLD CUP - NEW LOGO 4-23-13

Twelve nations were represented in the class: Canada (2 riders), Chile (1 rider), Colombia (1 rider), Dominican Republic (1 rider), Egypt (1 rider), Great Britain (1 rider), Ireland (4 riders), Mexico (1 rider), New Zealand (1 rider), Russia (1 rider), the United States (25 riders), and Venezuela (1 rider).

American riders are really trying to make the finals, to be held in Omaha, Nebraska, this year. “This year, especially with it being in the United States, I would like to go if I feel like I have a horse that’s on form at that time. I’ve been to the FEI World Cup™ Final a few times, and I really only want to go if I’m going to be a contender. I’d like to plan on going right now.”

Jacobs has qualified for, and competed in, two FEI World Cup™ Jumping Finals, in 2014 and in 2016, and hopes to ride again at the 2017 Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in Omaha, Neb., in March. And with a solid, second-place finish in the class, in addition to an eighth-place finish at Bromont CSI3*-W, Jacobs currently leads the East Coast sub-league standings.

SFN ZENITH NOT SOLD IN AUCTION© FEI: Jeroen Dubbeldam and SFN Zenith NOP

Four of six Dutch horses offered for sale by the Showjumping Fund of the Netherlands (SFN) in an online auction have been sold. Surprisingly, the highest-profile horse of the lot, SFN Zenith N.O.P., ridden to seventh place individually at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by Jeroen Dubbeldam, was not one of them.

SFN did not feel Zenith’s true value was reflected in the five bids he received, considering his stellar record under Dubbeldam: 2015 FEI European Championship team and individual gold; 2014 World Equestrian Games individual gold; 2014 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final team gold. As such, SFN will retain ownership of the 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by

Kentucky Horse Park Applies to Host 2022 World Equestrian Games© khp pictures: The 2007 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event is underway at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. PhelpsSports will have in-depth coverage

Lexington Herald Leader reports…….The Kentucky Horse Park has submitted a letter expressing formal interest in the 2022 World Equestrian Games.

The Féderation Equestre Internationale informed the state and the U.S. Equestrian Federation that they will be notified in December if they have made the shortlist of official candidates for the international horse sport championships.

Addressing the question of naming rights for the Rolex Stadium at the park “will be one of the first agenda items if we’re accepted,” she said.

The sponsorship apparently doomed Kentucky’s bid to repeat at WEG host for 2018; the state lost out to Canada, which subsequently had to withdraw, after the FEI signed a long-term “top sponsor” deal with rival Swiss watchmaker Longines in 2013.

The Longines deal is reportedly worth at least $130 million over 10 years, which apparently would run at least through the 2022 games.

If the Rolex stadium sponsorship is not renewed, the Kentucky Horse Park will need to find a new sponsor to make up the lost revenue, Patrick said. They also hoped that another way could be found for Rolex to continue its support at the park, she added.

Rolex also has been a decades-long sponsor of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, the horse park’s marquee event that draws an Olympic-level field to compete annually in Kentucky. Known as “the Rolex Kentucky” in the horse world, the event is produced by Equestrian Events Inc., a separate non-profit headquartered at the park.
