Hardin Towell and Alexander Imschenetzky Emerge Victorious in Young Jumper Classes at Bluegrass Festival Horse Show

Lexington, Ky. – Aug. 16, 2018 – A rainy start welcomed jumper riders and their young horses to the Rolex Stadium at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show on Thursday morning, with Hardin Towell and Alexander Imschenetzky overcoming the elements to pilot their mounts to the quickest clean and clear jump-off trips to secure victory in the 6-Year-Old and 7-Year-Old Jumpers, respectively.

Hardin Towell and Angel Twist

Towell, who started the week off strong at the Bluegrass Festival by winning the 1.40m Open Jumpers on Wednesday, sped to a double clear finish in the 6-Year-Old Jumpers with Angel Twist. Angel Twist, a 6-year-old stallion owned by Taboo Holdings, gave two clear and speedy rounds over Ken Krome’s technical course and did not let heavy rains blur his focus. Towell, who rode fourth in the class, navigated the course expertly with the young horse utilizing angled fences and tight inside turn options to finish with a speedy jump-off time of 35.219 seconds that the remaining three clear competitors could not catch.

Carlos Milthaler and Paquirri

Next in the order of go, Carlos Milthaler (CHI) was able to secure second place aboard Paquirri, owned by Cristobal Diaz. The pair put in a solid first round that would take them to the immediate jump-off, where they narrowly missed Towell’s winning time by .29 seconds. Jennifer Waxman and Spy Coast Farm’s Maui SCF claimed third place with a time of 36.284 seconds.

Alexander Imschenetzk and La Numero Uno

Later in the morning, the more experienced 7-Year-Old Jumpers tried their hand in the Young Jumper Series, sponsored by Spy Coast Farm. Despite the continuous heavy rains, Alexander Imschenetzk and La Numero Uno mastered the elements to come out on top with double clear rounds and a jump-off time of 36.127 seconds. Imschenetzky, who rode sixth in the class, knew that in order to claim first place from class leader Hayley Barnhill, he just had to ride a careful jump-off course as Barnhill had one rail down despite her speedy jump-off time of 32.984 seconds. Barnhill, who was second to go, sped to the quickest time of the day aboard Oakmont Stables LLC’s Oldenburg gelding, Quickborn 8, but ultimately ended up in second place. Third place was captured by Shannon Clifford and her own Diamond.

Jumper competition at the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show will continue through Sunday, with two highlight grand prix events bringing the best horses and riders to the Rolex Stadium. The $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic takes place Friday evening and the $40,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix sponsored by Audi of Lexington will run Sunday afternoon.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Hardin Towell – Winner of the 6-Year-Old Jumpers

On Angel Twist:
“He is a 6-year-old stallion by the clone of Gem Twist, Gemini. He originally came from Peter Leone  and now Elissa Reisman owns him. Elissa has been showing him through the summer, but whenever I’m around they let me ride him a little bit. He’s a lovely horse. He is a scopey jumper and they have done a lovely job producing the horse. I definitely see a bright future for him.”

On Thursday’s round:
“He has grown up a lot since showing in Florida. They have done a very good job with. I rode him a little bit back in Upperville and I really hadn’t ridden him since Florida, but I knew him pretty well there and I showed him quite a bit. Today, I just wanted to have a nice first round and he jumped really well in that round. Then in the jump-off he was smooth and efficient and he really did well. When I’m riding young horse, I don’t really see a need for them to go fast in the jump-off, but they need to learn to turn tight and that’s the main part of the game. I figured today I would take some tight turns and some angles and today he showed he was very mature for his age.”
