Stuttgart, GER – Nov. 19, 2017 – Sunday Steve Guerdat became the first Swiss rider in the history of the Stuttgart German Masters to win the Grand Prix of Stuttgart presented by Mercedes-Benz, WALTER solar and BW-Bank. The 2012 London Olympic champion was the third-last to go in the saddle of ten-year-old mare Hannah, topping long-time leader Philipp Weishaupt’s time by more than half a second. Guerdat not only secured a victory in the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Stuttgart CSI5*-W, but his qualification for the final in Paris, FRA in April 2018.

“Stuttgart is always one of my favorite World Cups. I finished four or five times and I thought I would never win here. I was really scared that someone would hit me again,” said Guerdat.

Philipp Weishaupt and Asathir captured second place and 17 world ranking list points. He is now tenth of the rankings with 21 points. “I was relatively early on and I knew: It’s always faster! I do not know where I could have ridden faster.”

Third was the winner of the two previous years, Christian Ahlmann on the 13-year-old stallion Epleaser van’t Heike. “I tried to hurry – Epleaser is in very good shape and has made two good laps. He has everything implemented and fought.”

The competition now moves to Spain for the stop six of the 13-event Western European League, where Saturday, Nov. 25, will feature the Longines FEI World Cup™ Jumping Madrid CSI5*-W.
