Evermore Named 2019 Devon Grand Junior Hunter Champion with Mimi Gochman

Devon, Pa. – May 25, 2019 – The Devon Grand Junior Hunter Champion title was awarded on day three of the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair. Battling it out between the Large and Small Junior Hunter divisions, horse-and-rider combinations sought to accumulate the most points over two days of competition to win the prestigious “Ovation” Perpetual Trophy. After dominating the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunter division and earning 30 points to claim the John J. Moran Memorial Perpetual Trophy, it was Mimi Gochman and Evermore who walked away with the coveted title.

Training under the tutelage of Ken Berkley and Scott Stewart, Gochman prepared for the 2019 Devon Horse Show with no shortage of expert advice. Gochman, from Wellington, Florida, and the Gochman Sport Horse LLC’s Evermore consistently performed throughout Friday and Saturday to earn both the Small Junior 15 and Under Hunter championship and the Overall Small Junior Hunter championship for the Milton Kulp, Jr. Challenge Trophy.

The impressive Evermore was also awarded the Angelo Award, which is presented to the horse who best exemplifies the classic hunter horse in movement, jumping style and presence.

Gochman and the 10-year-old Bavarian Warmblood scored an impressive 90 in Saturday’s $4,000 Small Junior 15 and Under Hunter Stake, sponsored by Hermès, while also winning the $3,000 Small Junior 15 and Under Handy Hunter round earlier in the day with a score of 89. The duo has been paired together throughout the duration of the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival, regularly placing in the top of the standings in the Small Junior Hunter division.

Gochman is walking away from Junior Weekend at the 2019 Devon Horse Show with a number of wins to her name. On Thursday, she captured another Devon blue with her equitation mount, Heroy Von De Hei, in Section B of the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search 3*, sponsored by Lugano Diamonds.

Augusta Iwasaki and Small Occasion

Additionally, the prestigious 1902 Edward T. Stotesbury Perpetual Trophy for Best Child Rider on a Horse was presented to another regular face in the winner’s circle, Augusta Iwasaki, based on her impressive performances in the junior hunter divisions. Gochman was awarded third place.

“I ride with Ken Berkley and Scott Stewart. They do everything for me. Scott is such an amazing hunter rider and knows all of the ropes. Ken has been doing this forever and just taught me how to do everything. They just told me to have smooth rounds today. They told me to just go slow and meet all of the jumps as they come and keep a good connection. I always try to do exactly what they say.”
