Wellington, Fla. – Feb. 9, 2018 – It was Daisy Farish who came out on top during Friday’s Platinum Performance USEF Show Jumping Talent Search 2* during Week Five of the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Farish piloted Brian Baldwin and Meralex Farm’s Braavos around a nearly perfect round that earned the pair a score of 88, which immediately put them on the standby list for the flat phase of Friday’s competition.

Although Farish never got the chance to walk Friday’s course, she paid close attention to her peers’ rounds, mapping out a plan where she could make up time but still execute a smooth performance. Week Five’s course, designed by Nick Granat, proved to be difficult for the 23 horse-and-rider pairs, with numerous tricky combinations causing rails to come down. Additionally, the long gallop to the open water obstacle resulted in many riders being eliminated due to refusals.

In second was Alexandra Pielet, who rode Co-Pielet LLC’s Common Sense around a solid course that scored the pair an 86. Pielet and Common Sense have had a successful run in this class so far this season, having won the class during Week Three.

Natalie Jayne and Cinzano

Third place was captured by 14-year-old Natalie Jayne and her own Cinzano, who set the bar high as first to go in Friday’s competition.

Competition at WEF continues on Saturday, culminating with the week’s highlight event: the $384,000 Fidelity Investments Grand Prix CSI5*.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Daisy Farish – Platinum Performance USEF Show Jumping Talent Search 2* winner

On Friday’s challenging course:
“I actually didn’t get to walk the course today because I was at another ring. The time today was a little snug and the one place I think I made up time was going inside of the island after the water. I felt like a lot of people had trouble with the water today. As far as the course went, a lot of people were turning back tight to jump fence two and then not getting up the line to fence three. Because of that, I decided to go a step further in the turn and I felt like that really helped me in the second line.”

On Braavos:
“I’m just riding this horse in this class but I’ve shown him a few times before. Brian Baldwin and Meralex Farm are very generous to let me show him. He is a really special horse and is great for these classes because he is very scopey. He is so brave and jumps the water like a pro.”

On the rest of the season:
“I am looking forward to riding in the [George H. Morris Excellence in Equitation Championship] later this season. I’m also competing in the Under 25 grand prix events with my jumpers as well.”
