Both seasoned professionals and up and coming Hunter riders brought their A game to this spectacular venue on a gorgeous Nevada summer day and all in the name of charity.

Jenny Karazissis only had two horses in the $1,000 Welcome Stake Sponsored by Breakaway Farms and took home both the 1st and 2nd place honors for her efforts. Karazissis explained, “I was really pleased, I went late in the class on Nonchalant, he was the winner of the big class last year, so I was confident that he would be brave and go around.” Big Shot and Karazissis also produced an excellent round for second place, Karazissis said of the class, “It is so nice to have this class as a warm up , and know if you need to work your horse a little bit more and prepare for the next round. I love coming here every year, its a stand alone event, one ring to think about, gorgeous scenery and amazing footing, the horses love it out there. The MacLean family are so welcoming and put on such a lovely event.”

Karazissis continued on to the 3′ Hunter Derby and along with the first two horses she also entered Undeniable and Legacy, to take 1st on Undeniable and 2nd on Legacy. Undeniable definitely loves the surroundings and also led the handy round for the overall win.

“Undeniable has won the 3′ Hunter Derby four times in a row, only missing attending last year. He loves it here. When we arrive after a long journey, we can do so much pampering that we can’t really do at a normal horse show. We put him in his stall, bring him out to graze and wander over the derby field, he gets turned out in a bull pen, he is just very comfortable here and he loves it here.” Karazissis said.

In talking about Sunday’s $30,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, Sponsored by Land Rover of Reno, Karazissis shared her plans to compete on three horses. “We get to sleep in tomorrow and hack out on the field in the morning before the Derby…..its just so inviting here. Its a wonderful event I can’t thank the MacLean family enough, they do a great job and I hope to come back here for years to come.”
