Devon, Pa. – May 26, 2019 – The Children’s Jumpers stole the show earlier in the day on Sunday at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair with the awarding of the Children’s Jumper championship, sponsored by Westover Companies/Guntram Weissenberger, Jr. A competitive 20 horses and riders strived to produce the fastest round in Sunday’s $2,500 NAL Children’s Jumper class to accumulate final points towards the overall title, but it was Claudette Yarbrough and her own Lyla who walked away with the www.HorseinOil.com Challenge Trophy and the Leonard Tose Memorial Challenge Trophy to claim top honors with a total of 21 points.

In the $1,000 Children’s Jumper class, sponsored by Dover Saddlery, the pair placed second. Later in the day, Yarbrough expertly tackled Guilherme Jorge’s course of 13 obstacles in the $2,500 NAL Children’s Jumpers, sponsored by Westover Companies/Guntram Weissenberger, Jr., easily speeding to a time of 26.083 seconds, which couldn’t be caught.

Training under Stacia Madden and Beacon Hill Show Stables, 14-year-old Yarbrough has been competing with the seasoned mare throughout the duration of the 2019 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. Competing consistently in the Children’s Jumpers, it has always been a dream of Yarbrough’s to take home a Devon blue. The New Jersey native looks forward to many more years of competing at the Devon Horse Show, aiming to continue riding in the jumpers and in the equitation classes.

Grace Debney and Byolga

Taking home reserve honors in the Children’s Jumper division was Grace Debney and Emily Reder’s Byolga. The pair finished with a total score of 16 points after winning the first class of the day on Sunday for the Upland Farm Perpetual Trophy and placing second in Saturday’s first class of the division.

Competition will resume in the Dixon Oval on Monday, May 27, with the start of Senior Week, beginning with the Green 3’6” Hunter division followed by the Green Conformation and Green 3’9” Hunter divisions.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Claudette Yarbrough – Children’s Jumper champion

On Lyla:
“Her name is Lyla. I’ve had her since December. I showed her throughout Florida this year in the Children’s Jumpers. She has been so awesome. She is a little grumpy, she’s a mare. She is really fast though.”

On her strategy for Sunday:
“I just wanted to go in and go really fast. I planned to do all of the inside turns. My distances came up really nicely for me today. I think I made up time with my turn after fence three and then to the last jump I really ran for it. I train with Stacia Madden and she told me to just do my best and go for it.”

On showing at Devon:
“I showed here last year and it was really exciting. I’m excited to be back this year because I have a new horse and it’s just a really big honor to show here.”
