Top Riders to Compete in $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar, May 4
DEL MAR, CA (May 3, 2013)—Forty-two horse/rider combinations competed in the $25,000 Surfside Grand Prix presented by iJump Sports on May 2, 2013. The top thirty qualified to compete in this Saturday's $100,000 Grand Prix of Del Mar.
Christa Heibach, of Aachen, Germany, designed a challenging course asking difficult questions throughout. Not for the faint-of-heart, tight turns, challenging distances, and tough options took their toll; the last fence—an airy vertical heartbreaker—took out several pair who had ridden clean to that point.
John Pearce had it all figured out on both of his horses, placing first and third, with Chianto and Son of a Gun, 0/61.318 and 0/65.152 respectively. Rusty Stewart and Bristol, 0/64.258, came in second, while Simon Nizri and Chela LS, 0/66.009 came in fourth.
Here's how it played out:
1 Chianto – John Pearce – Alison Moore 0/61.318
2 Bristol – Rusty Steward – Grey Fox Farm 0/64.258
3 Son of a Gun – John Pearce – Forest View Farm 0/65.152
4 Chela LS – Simon Nizri – Club Hipico La Silla 0/66.009
